The End to our Dometic Water Heater Saga

Never has a component of Arthur Airstream received so much attention, let alone four blogs dedicated to it, than our Dometic brand RV water heater. The saga began while on our way to Alaska. For details, read “Road to Alaska Stop 9 – Fort Nelson, BC” published June 20, 2024. (Search in Past Archived Blogs and select June 2024 from the dropdown menu.) The saga continued 747 miles further down the road when, during our stop, Arthur received some TLC at Fraserway RV. For more details, read “Road to Alaska Stop 13 – Whitehorse, YT” published 5 July 2024. We lived with the less than perfect repair and replacement water heater from the time of our stay in Whitehorse until we stopped here in Carrollton, TX on August 18, 2025. Despite MFI’s ingenious replumbing of the water heater nearly two months ago, this saga had yet its final chapter involving the “black” exterior access door. If you haven’t read the details in the three previous blogs, let me recount what the situation was after MFI’s replumb. The replacement water heater came only in black. While the original exterior access door had been chrome to match the Airstream’s aluminum siding, we lived with it. After all, we had hot water!

I believed the saga to be over; however, MFI made it clear she wanted the black door painted chrome. So we purchased two small cans of spray paint during an unrelated Home Depot run, and today I prepped the area around the door and applied two coats. With that, I’m officially calling an end to this saga!
