Decorating Arthur for Christmas

Just because we live full-time in our RV (Arthur Airstream) doesn’t mean we can’t decorate for the holidays. That said, we didn’t even think much about outside decorations until we spent the winter of 2023 near Seattle. (We were there in preparation for our three-month long 2024 trek to Alaska.) In Issaquah, WA, we purchased three 6′ tall shepard’s crooks, which supported our decorating that year (at least we hung lights)…

… as well as, last year while parked in Carrollton for the winter. We clearly upgraded our look.

This year we are parked on one of the larger sites at Sandy Lake RV Park in Carrollton and realized this was an opportunity for us to expand our decorations even further. So, we added two more shepard’s crooks, lots of garland, and two 3′ tall potted holly bushes with large red bows. But frankly, once we got started, we couldn’t stop ourselves. We decided to craft the front end of Arthur to look like Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer. MFI employed her sewing skills to create a nose, and both of us used some inexpensive Home Depot and Michael’s materials to make eyes and a pair of antlers. We had a number of residents, some of whom remembered us from last year, stop by and tell us how much they loved what we were doing. Truth be told, we had fun knocking it out of the park this year. Our Christmas spirit is strong.

One of the challenges for outdoor decorations in Texas is anchoring them in a way that storms won’t blow them down. We just returned from a two-week visit in Hollywood, FL with the Gomez family and were so relieved to see everything was still intact. This despite neighbors telling us a big storm with high winds happened while we were away. Fortunately, six years on the road has taught us much about “battening down the hatches.”

Here’s hoping your Christmas was merry, and

We wish you continued health and happiness in the New Year!
