We took a four-day trip back to Green Valley, so we could finish what was left undone from our first visit back in June (Please refer to our earlier blog, Brother Rus’ Projects – Green Valley, AZ). As a reminder, we had converted Rus’ carport into an enclosed garage; however, we now had to refloat, sand, and paint the interior of the new walls; seal and caulk the new windows; and install trim around the new door.
This is what the carport looked like before the June work began. Three open sections, which we enclosed.

After we left in early July, Rus paid a contractor to stucco the walls we had installed. His man Alfredo did an excellent job. Rus painted the new stucco before we returned, and I grabbed these photos for a comparison to those above.

Rus was once again a huge help in getting the wall interiors finished. He did a lot of the sanding and all of the painting. MFI and I installed the door trim. I filled and sanded the nail holes. Overall, we’re very pleased with the results. While many people living in the Continental Vistas housing development have completed similar carport enclosures, we believe Rus has one of the best looking. Here are the finished interior walls.

While we were waiting for drywall paste to dry and sanding to get done, MFI finished installing the last of the new ceiling fans purchased back in June. She had left it then after two tries failed to solve a humming motor problem. We had concluded in June that there was a short in the old power cord. We bought a new cord and she successfully installed the fan in Rus’ bedroom.
Rus also decided he would like to replace the four “granny style” wall sconces mounted in the two bedrooms, hallway, and Arizona Room. He found a replacement on Amazon that suited his taste at a bargain price. They were shipped overnight, and I installed them while MFI was working on the ceiling fan.

Rus again prepared delicious dinners, as he had done during our first visit. He excelled particularly at creating outstanding salads filled with black and green olives, avocado, radishes, tomatoes, carrots, onions, jicama, and lettuce. He and I were able to take three hikes, during which we conversed about a lot of topics and solved most of the world’s problems. And unlike our previous visit, we even remembered to grab a picture of the three of us enjoying a Starbucks.
